Are you looking forward to a New Year and a New Home?
If this is you, check out these 5 Tips to Prepare to Buy a Home!
1. Check your credit score.
Your credit score is what mortgage lenders view to determine if you are creditworthy and dictate the rate you will be charged by the bank. It is important to review your score and clean up any blemishes.
2. Get Pre-Approved!
The next step is to shop around for a mortgage lender and get pre-approved. This shows sellers that you are serious about buying their home.
3. Save for your down payment.
This is the hard part - or maybe, the easy part if you are a savings ninja! To get the best rate you will want to at least put down 20%! If that seems out of your reach, there are opportunities to put down as little as 3% down payment.
4. Don't make any big changes.
Top things not to do while applying for a home loan...
- Switch careers
- Buy a new car
- Buy new furniture with your credit card
- Apply for a new credit card
It's a sensitive time for you, so make the right steps to not negatively effect your credit score!
5. Work with a Real Estate Agent
Working with a great agent/realtor will save you SO MUCH time and stress. There's always 101 things to look at when buying a home and they make the process as easy as possible.
